New Delhi, Dec 4 (IBNS): The Centre on Thursday gave its clearance for the installation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue in the Arabian Sea in Mumbai.

Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said clearance has been given to the project.

The statue  is seen as a symbol of Maratha pride.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis tweeted: "MoEF - GoI has given clearance for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial in the Arabian Sea at #Mumbai .Thank you @PrakashJavdekar ji. "

The statue is planned to be located off the Marine Drive.

The Navy had earlier opposed it by citing restrictions on construction in the Coastal Regulatory Zone.
