Kumar was reportedly arrested for allegedly demanding Rs. 70,000 as bribe from a regional agent to clear a regional language film from Chhattisgarh.
"Mr Kumar was questioned by the CBI over the weekend and the investigators found enough prima facie evidence to suggest he had demanded the bribe," NDTV reported quoting sources.
Kumar, who is a 1997-batch Indian Railway Personnel Service officer, joined as the CEO of CBFC earlier this year.
