CBI raids 12 locations in alleged espionage case

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday conducted searches at 12 locations in an on-going epionage case probe against a person, who allegedly gained collected national security sensitive information and shared with foreign intelligence agencies.

The Central probe agency raided 12 locations, including in Delhi NCR and the premises of the accused in Jaipur, identified as Vivek Raghuvanshi, and others in an on-going investigation of a case registered under Section 3 of Official Secret Act and Section 120-B of Indian Penal Code, CBI said in a statement.

CBI registered the said case on December 9, last year, against the accused on the allegations that he was involved in the illegal collection of sensitive information including the minute details of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) defence projects and their progress, it said.

Sensitive details about the future procurement of the Indian armed forces, which reveal the strategic preparedness of a country's classified communications and information relating to national security, and details of the strategic and diplomatic talks of India with its friendly countries and sharing classified information with foreign intelligence agencies, it added.

During investigation, certain documents containing sensitive information were recovered from the possession of the accused, claimed CBI statement.
