Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba reviews Bihar flood situation in NCMC meeting
New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI): Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba on Tuesday reviewed the Bihar flood situation in National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) meeting held here and directed the central agencies to provide all possible help to the state.
The Indian Meteorological Department informed the high-level committee that heavy rainfall had battered the state in the past few days but now the situation has improved.
The Bihar government informed the NCMC that extremely heavy rainfall has led to flooding in 16 districts of the state.
An extensive evacuation, rescue and relief operation have been undertaken by the State Government machinery in which all assistance has been rendered by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other Central agencies.
The Bihar government further informed that 20 NDRF teams have been deployed in the state, out of which six teams have been stationed in Patna which has witnessed very heavy rains and water logging over the past three days.
Two helicopters of the Air Force have been Pressed into service in rescue and relief operations. Four heavy duty pumps, made available by the Ministry of Coal, is reaching Patna on Tuesday which would pump out about 3,000 gallons of water per minute from the submerged areas.
Essential supplies of food and drinking water were being supplied by the state government and efforts undertaken to restore power supply in the flood-affected areas.
The Cabinet Secretary took stock of the current situation, preparedness, rescue end relief operations and directed that immediate assistance, as sought by the state to meet this crisis.
The NCMC was also informed that the teams of Central Ministries have already carried out assessment of the damage in the state and a fresh visit would be made by them to take stock of the current situation.
Senior officials of the Ministries of Home and Defence as well from the IMD, NDRF and Central Water Commission attended the meeting.
Chief Secretary and other senior officers from the State Government attended the meeting through video conference.
