Kolkata, Nov 10 (IBNS): The National investigating Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested a key member of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) Amjad Sheikh in connection with the Burdwan blast case.
"NIA today achieved a major breakthrough with the arrest of one Amjad Sheikh@ Kajal, son of Sukur Sheikh, age 30 years, resident of Kazi market, Kirnahar, District- Birbhum (West Bengal) for his role in Burdwan blast case," the probe agency said in a statement.

The accused was arrested from Birbhum in West Bengal.

According to NIA, Amjad Sheikh was a key member of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, Bangladesh (JMB) and also one of the main conspirators of the Burdwan blast
case. He was instrumental in procuring explosive chemicals and providing these to other co-conspirators for making IEDs.

Soon after the blasts, NIA had raided his Kolkata house and recovered receipts
and vouchers related to purchase of chemicals which were used in making the IEDs.

"It was revealed during the investigation that Amjad Sheikh was part of the top brass of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, Bangladesh (JMB) in India. After the blast, Amjad absconded and visited New Delhi on 8th Oct,2014 and from there he went to Basti in UP where he was provided shelter for few days by a police personnel. Ultimately, he went back to West Bengal from where he was arrested today," the NIA stated.

The investigating agency also  disclosed that Amjad Sheikh was closely associated with the top JMB commanders who were running Jehadi training modules in two Madrassas of West Bengal.

Amjad Sheikh carried a reward of Rs.10 lakh which was declared by NIA.

Earlier, the NIA arrested JMB commanders Sajid and Zia-ul-Haq.

On Oct 2, a terror module got busted in Khagragarh in West Bengal's Burdwan district after an inadvertent explosion took place when suspected Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terrorists were making Improvised Explosive Device (IED), thus killing 2 of them.
