Burdwan blast: Key accused Sahanur Alam escapes, police arrests two from Dhubri

Guwahati, Nov 19 (IBNS) : Sahanur Alam, one of the key accused in the Burdwan blast case has escaped when the Assam police launched an operation to nab him in the state's Dhubri district along the Bangladesh border in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The police said they have arrested two persons during the operation. They had given shelter to Sahanur.

Dhubri District SP Mridulananda Sarma said that following a tip-off, the police had launched an operation at Medartari area near Fakiraganj along the Bangladesh border around 2-30 am on Wednesday, where Sahanur Alam was taking shelter.

“Sahanur Alam took shelter at a house which is owned by Jamsher Ali and managed to flee before the police reached the area,” a police official said.

The police arrested two persons named Sahanur Ali and Abdur Nur and recovered a mobile handset which was used by Sahanur Alam.

“We have launched an operation to nab the key accused in the Burdwan blast,” Sarma said.

The NIA has announced Rs 5 lakh reward to anyone for providing information leading to Sahanur Alam's arrest.

The police have interrogated the arrested duo to collect more information.

The Assam police have arrested a total of 12 persons, including Sahanur Alam’s Jihadi wife Sujina Begum, in connection with Burdwan blast so far.
