BSF troops seize 1 kg gold ornaments

Kolkata, May 11 (IBNS) The Border Security Force on Monday said it seized gold ornaments weighing approx one Kg, under PS-Bagdah area from the bordering area of dist North 24 Pargana on Sunday.

"The troops of   BOP   Mysimpur, 01 Bn BSF seized Gold ornaments weighing approx one Kg, under PS-Bagdah area from the bordering area of dist North 24 Pargana yesterday," read a government statement issued on Monday.

"The BSF Intelligence Branch received a pinpoint information about Gold smuggling from Bangladesh to India in bordering area of BOP Mysimpur yesterday.   At about 6 AM troops of 01 Bn BSF under South Bengal Ftr launched a special operation near the Indo-Bangladesh border of BOP Mysimpur to trap the smuggling team," it said.

The BSF said its operation team noticed a movement of a person and challenged him to stop, but the miscreant escaped from the spot due to heavy crops leaving behind a plastic bag.  

"After thorough search of the area, the special team recovered Gold ornaments weighing approx. one Kg (containing bangles without locket weight-24 No’s -350 grm, bangles with locket-230 grm, neck chain-6 No’s-300 grm, neck chain-01 No’s-20 grm, locket-10 No’s -40 Grm, tops-24 No’s -70 grm). The seized gold ornaments were handed over to Customs Office Bagdah, Distt – Nadia for further legal action," read the official statement.

"South Bengal Frontier of BSF seized more than 12.748 Kg of Gold, the approx value of which is Rs. 31,78,178 /- and apprehended 11  smugglers this year," it said.
