BSF-Civilians clash over cow slaughtering
Agartala/UNI: At least five people including four civilians were injured in a clash between BSF and villagers of Motinagar in Sonamura along the India-Bangladesh border on Sunday over cow slaughtering, which spread tension in bordering villages of Sepahijala district in Tripura.
According to the report, BSF personnel of UNC Nagar BOP have raided a local market at Fakiradula following information of cow slaughtering and they objected to the open slaughtering of cows that led to a hot altercation between two parties.
Allegedly, violent villagers including women resorted to attack the BSF.
The BSF jawans have also resorted to lathi-charge on the locals.
The situation turned worse after a large number of villagers chased the jawans.
During the clash, a jawan sustained injuries along with four villagers including a lady and all of them were shifted to Sonamura hospital.
Later, protesting the incident, the villagers’ then gheraoed the BOP and blocked the Sonamura-Boxangar highway.
The villagers denied the allegation of open cow slaughtering and claimed that they were only distributing the beef when BSF came chasing them.
They demanded an administrative enquiry into the incident and punished the jawans for creating a disturbance and hurting the communal sentiment.
