British Airways plane catches fire, several hurt

Las Vegas, Sept 9 (IBNS): Several people were injured as a British Airways plane bound for London caught fire at Las Vegas airport on Tuesday, officials said.

According to reports, 172 people on board were evacuated on emergency slides.

Airport officials was quoted as saying to BBC that  at least 13 people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The fire has been put out.

McCarran International Airport tweeted: "UPDATE 5:27 PM -- @ClarkCountyFD @LASairport had the fire out and all passengers off BA flight by 4:18 PM - excellent work by our ARFF team."

"UPDATE 6:18 PM -- Latest information is seven passengers from @British_Airways flight 2276 received medical treatment for minor injuries," read another tweet.

"UPDATE 8:23 PM -- Runway 7L @LASairport has been cleared by FAA and is expected to open later tonight. Alert was terminated at 8:14 PM," read the last tweet.


The 172 people onboard included 159 passengers and 13 crew.
