Brahmaputra flows above danger level in Assam, Arunachal

In Guwahati, the Brahmaputra is flowing below the danger level, but the water level has been increasing by 2-3 cm per hour.

The Brahmaputra river is flowing above 85.52 cm at Nimatighat in Assam’s Jorhat district on July 8, whereas the marked danger level is marked 85.02 cm.

The water level of the river has also increased at Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur and Sonitpur.

Apart from the Brahmaputra, the water level of Dhansiri river is flowing above the danger level at Numaligarh in Golaghat district and Jia Bharali is flowing above danger level at NT Rd Crossing in Sonitpur district.

Meanwhile, flood waters have submerged 50 villages in five districts – Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Biswanath and Golaghat -- and affecting over 15,000 people.

The district administration has set up 10 relief camps in the flood hit districts.

The flood waters have also submerged over 1,000 hectare crop lands in the flood affected districts.

“Water level has more increased on Brahmaputra since last night and it has increased 2-3 cm per hour. The Brahmaputra in Guwahati is now flowing below the warning level mark 48.68 meter, but water level has gradually increased,” a Central Water Commission employee said.
