Both BJP, Congress claim to form next government in Assam
Guwahati/IBNS: While the first of Assam assembly polls for 47 assembly constituencies were held on Saturday with over 79 percent voter turnout and two phases of polls for 79 seats are still remaining, the alliances of both the ruling BJP and opposition Congress have claimed to form the next government in the state.
BJP’s ally party United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPPL) chief and Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Pramod Bodo said that, the BJP-led alliance will form the next government in the state.
"I am very much confident in this election that our alliance will do best in the state. We are basically three parties in this alliance – BJP, AGP and UPPL. In our Bodoland region UPPL will contest in 8 seats and will contest in three other seats. We will win in eight seats," Pramod Bodo said.
There are 12 assembly constituencies in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and former BJP’s ally Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has joined the Congress-AIUDF led grand alliance.
Pramod Bodo also said that there is no leadership face in the Congress-AIUDF led grand alliance.
"In Assam, there is no face of the Congress party whom people may select as a leader. The Muslim people in the state have already rejected Badruddin Ajmal and the people of Bodoland have experienced bad politics of Hagrama Mahilary. But in BJP and its ally parties, there are lots of leaders who can run the state, who can lead the society," Pramod Bodo said.
On the other hand, opposition Congress has also claimed to form the next government in the state.
Congress leader and the party candidate of Raha assembly constituency Sashi Kanta Das said that, BJP is talking about 100 plus, but the people of the state are thinking about the price hike of petrol-diesel, essential commodities.
"The fuel price, mustard oil price, pulses price have crossed 100 way mark. We have thought that BJP is actually talking about this 100, they have never talked about assembly seats," Sashi Das Kanta said.
Congress candidate of Batadrava assembly constituency Sibamoni Bora claimed that Congress-AIUDF led grand alliance will win 101 seats in this election in the state.
On the other hand, BJP MLA and party candidate of Patharkandi assembly constituency in Barak Valley Krishnendu Paul said that, in last five years during the BJP-led Assam government the communication gap between the Barak Valley region and Brahmaputra Valley region has reduced and the people of Barak Valley region are now very happy with the development woks done by the Sonowal-led government.
“During the Congress regime, the people of Barak Valley had raised demands for a separate state. But the situation has now completely changed. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's ‘Barak, Brahmaputra, Paahar, Bhoiam’ (Barak, Brahmaputra, Hills, Plains) manta has been really implemented and he always tries to tie up the different communities of the state in a single platform. Now the people of Barak Valley region feel that they are living in Assam,” Krishnendu Paul said.
He is confident that the people of Assam will see the developmental works done by the BJP-led government and will vote for BJP.
The second and third phases of polls in the state will be held on April 1 and April 6.
