BJP's opposition to statehood for Delhi proves Modi ji lied to people: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Feb 24 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying BJP's opposition to statehood for Delhi proved that Modiji lied to the people.

Delhiites will respond to the lies and decades of deceit appropriately now, he added.

"BJP's opposition to statehood for Delhi now is its confession that Modi ji lied to the people of Delhi in 2014 Lok Sabha elections. People of Delhi will respond to lies and decades of deceit appropriately now," the CM said taking to micro-blogging site Twitter.

He said, "In the last four years, Narendra Modi Government has passed the order and kept on snatching the powers of the Delhi Government. Whether it's CCTV, school, Hospital, or Mohalla Clinic, etc. --all the works of Delhi people have received obstacles. We did everything - requested in front of them (Centre), protested and even went to the court. When there is no way left then we are fasting."

"Advaniji, as Home Minister, in August 2003 introduced statehood for Delhi Bill in Lok Sabha. Pranab da headed parliamentary committee endorsed it in December 2003, but it finally lapsed," he said.

"Did they intend to just play with the emotions of people of Delhi? Why this injustice with Delhiites? Yes, Delhi is India's national capital, so let the Centre keep entire NDMC area under its complete control. How can rest of Delhi, in which Delhiites elect their own govt, be kept subservient to the Centre? No more injustice to be tolerated," he added.

Kejriwal on Saturday announced that he will go on an indefinite hunger strike from March 1 to press for the demand of full statehood.

On Saturday, the CM had said, "From March 1, I will begin hunger strike. I am going to fast till we get statehood. I am ready to face death", pointing out that 'Andolan' was the only way out of this crisis.
