BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Goel says odd-even scheme inspired by vote bank politics
New Delhi/IBNS: Senior BJP leader Vijay Goel on Sunday said the Delhi government's scheme was inspired by "vote bank politics" and he will not abide by the rule which will be effective from tomorrow in the national capital, media reports said.
Calling the arrangement an "election stunt", the Rajya Sabha MP said the scheme had been implemented to gain political mileage ahead of the Assembly elections in the national capital.
Pointing out the exemptions given to 70 lakh two-wheelers, three-wheelers, Ola and Uber, and women drivers, he said the scheme was reduced to a mere gimmick.
Goel had flouted the odd-even rule back in 2016 and paid a fine of Rs 2000, when the scheme was implemented by the Kejriwal government.
Delhi and the National Capital Region(NCR) is under the cover of a thick smog with Air Quality entering the severe category.
In certain parts of the capital, the AQI reached 999 mark while the overallAir Quality of the city touched 625.
Aam Admi Party and BJP had been blaming each other for the situation, with Chief Minister attributing the situation to unabated burning of crop-residue in Punjab and Haryana, while BJP leaders like Sanjay Goel have maintained that the odd-even scheme showed that stubble burning was not the sole reason for the dangerous levels of air pollution in the city.
Odd even scheme kicks off from 8 am on Nov 4 and will continue till Nov 15 next. According to the scheme, the vehicles with odd and even last digit registration number will be allowed on roads on odd and even dates, respectively.
