BJP hits street to protest Tipu anniversary by Karnataka govt, calls Kumaraswamy absence a hypocrisy

Bengaluru, Nov 10 (IBNS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka has launched protests against the celebration of Tipu Jayanti officially by the state government of Congress-JDS alliance, opposing the observance of the birth anniversary of the 18th century ruler Tipu Sultan while calling the HD Kumaraswamy government in the state as pseudo-secular which is wasting money on glorifying a tyrant and killers of Hindus.

The BJP took to protests in Bengaluru, Mysuru and Kodagu demanding cancellation of the celebrations.

While Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy is reportedly staying away from the celebrations of the erstwhile Mysore kingdom ruler owing to "ill health", the BJP said the decision was because it feared a backlash over the celebrations.

Karnataka BJP Spokesperson S Prakash told media that when the government has announced the celebration they should have participated in the celebrations calling the entire episode a hypocrisy.

"While Cong-JDS govt is celebrating a tyrant Tippu, the CM himself goes into hiding, what is the point of celebrating a fanatic when CM himself abandons a govt function. Glorifying a mass murderer just for vote bank clearly shows mindset of this govt," the BJP tweeted.

BJP protesters were detained in many places as they intensified their demonstrations.

Tipu Sultan has been hailed by the Congress as a freedom fighter who was killed in the Anglo-Mysore war while the BJP and RSS hold him as a tyrant ruler who killed and persecuted Hindus and Christians for not converting to Islam.

According to media reports the Congress government in the state in 2015 had started to celebrate the occasion.

The BJP Karnataka tweeted: "Their is lot of similarities between Congress & Tippu Both were anti Hindu Both believed in suppressing Hindus Both were responsible for Killing of Hindus Both believed in minority appeasement Both wanted to divide Hindus No wonder Congress is worshipping tyrant Tippu."
