BJP had the popular mandate to form govt in Maharashtra: Ravi Shankar Prasad

New Delhi/UNI The BJP on Saturday shrugged off Congress and NCP's criticism of ridiculing constitutional values, saying it has "electoral and moral" backing to form the government in Maharashtra adding that its alliance with the Ajit Pawar faction of NCP was guided by the evolving circumstances, media reports said.

BJP leader and Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad lambasted the Shiv Sena and NCP for trying to forge an alliance in their thirst for power despite being "ideologically" poles apart while asserting that BJP led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had secured the popular mandate to form the government.

Brushing aside the question raised by Congress and NCP about the validity of the list of MPs handed over to Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Prasad said, "The Governor administered the oath of office to Devendra Fadnavis as the Chief Minister and Ajit Pawar as Deputy Chief Minister only after they presented the list of MLAs as the heads of their respective legislative parties."
