Patna/IBNS: The Bihar Police Thursday detained a Chinese woman, suspected of spying on Dalai Lama, amid the Tibetan spiritual leader's visit to Bodh Gaya.

The development came after a security alert was issued during Dalai Lama’s visit to Bodh Gaya.

The police also released a sketch of the Chinese woman, who they suspected, was plotting an attack on him.

Since the arrival of the Tibetan spiritual leader’s arrival in the pilgrim town last Thursday, the police have been on high alert.

The woman, identified as Song Xiaolam, was captured by the police from outside Kalchakra ground where the Dalai Lama offers spiritual discourses.

The Dalai Lama is scheduled to offer discourses at the Kalchakra Maidan from December 29 to 31.

He was welcomed in Bodh Gaya by District Magistrate Thyagarajan and Senior Superintendent of Police Harpreet Kaur, besides a sizeable number of followers.

Hundreds of people stood on both sides of the road to catch a glimpse of the Dalai Lama as he drove to the Tibetan monastery at Bodh Gaya.

The security in the area has been tightened in view of the Nobel Laureate's visit.

In January 2018, his site of discourse in the city was rocked by a low-intensity blast.

Meanwhile, the health department has taken measures to ensure the enforcement of Covid-19 protocols in the city where pilgrims from across the world have gathered to attend the discoursed of the spiritual leader.

The authorities have deployed health personnel for Covid testing of visitors from abroad and requested people to wear masks.
