Big boost to India-Morocco ties as INS Sudarshini wraps key visit

During the visit, the Commanding Officer of INS Sudarshini held professional interactions with senior leaders of the Royal Moroccan Navy, focusing on enhancing training exchanges and maritime collaboration.

Reflecting the spirit of ‘Lokayan’, Indian Navy trainees engaged with cadets of the Royal Moroccan Naval School through cross-deck visits and friendly sports fixtures.

Diplomatic outreach was further strengthened through an onboard reception hosted by INS Sudarshini, alongside a reciprocal luncheon hosted by the Royal Moroccan Navy, fostering both professional and cultural ties.

The visit underscores the growing maritime partnership between India and Morocco, driven by shared strategic interests and cooperation at sea.

Following the Casablanca port call, INS Sudarshini will proceed to Las Palmas as part of its ongoing deployment, carrying forward the message of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam and goodwill.

Historical ties between India and Morocco date back to the 14th century, when renowned traveller Ibn Battuta journeyed to India.

In the modern era, India supported Morocco’s independence movement at the United Nations and formally recognised the country on June 20, 1956.

Diplomatic relations between the two nations were established in 1957. Since then, India and Morocco have maintained strong and friendly ties, underpinned by mutual respect, shared values, and growing cooperation across sectors.
