Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar's bail denied, sent to jail for 14 days over CAA protests
New Delhi/IBNS: A Tis Hazari court on Saturday denied bail to Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad and sent him to jail for 14 days a day after he led a massive protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, in the national capital.
Chandrashekhar was accused by the Delhi police of inciting a large number of people to take out a protest march which later culminated into violence.
Fifteen protesters, who were also arrested, have been sent to the judicial custody for two days.
Despite no permission from the police, Chandrashekhar managed to enter through the gates of Jama Masjid along with a huge number of protesters.
Defying police's order, Chandrashekhar along with a large number of people marched towards Jantar Mantar in the national capital.
At least 36 people were injured in a clash which broke out in Daryaganj where a vehicle was torched leading police to respond with lathicharge and tear gas.
Chandrashekhar was arrested on Saturday morning.
The country is on the edge since last week as violent protests took place in various cities against the controversial CAA which will grant citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Sikh, Parsi but not Muslim refugees who came to India from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan before 2015.
