Benefits will now reach Kashmir: Mayawati

Lucknow, Aug 6 (UNI) Welcoming repeal of Article 370 of the Constitution which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Tuesday expressed hope that people of J&K can now taste the fruits of Centre's schemes and policies.

"The demand for removal of Article 370 and 35 A which conferred special status on Jammu-Kashmir to implement the spirit of social, economic and political justice of the Constitution had been going on since a long time. Now, BSP hopes that the true benefit of this decision of the Centre will reach the people in that region," Ms Mayawati said.

In another tweet, she said that by announcing Leh-Ladakh to be a separate Union Territory which will be a Centre-administered region, the long-standing demand of the Buddhist community has also been met. "With this decision of the Centre, the Buddhist followers of Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar are particularly happy throughout the country," she said.

BSP MP in Rajya Sabha Satish Mishra had supported the scrapping of Article 370 and said that now like in other states, the Dalits and backward classes will get the benefit of reservation in Jammu-Kashmir and hence, their party supports this move.
