Bad weather forces President Ramnath Kovind to cancel his Gumla and Deoghar visits
Ranchi, Sep 29 (UNI) President Ramnath Kovind was today forced to cancel his visit Gumla and Deoghar districts due to bad weather conditions and incessant rainfall, forcing him to spend the day inside Raj Bhavan.
The President will attend the convocation ceremony of the Ranchi University tomorrow and return back to New Delhi after the programme.
President Ramnath Kovind arrived at the Birsa Munda Airport on Saturday evening from Bhubaneswar where he was welcomed by Governor Draupadi Murmu and Chief Minister Raghubar Das.
Incessant rainfall which has been pounding the state capital Ranchi and other districts for the last five days has thrown normal life out of gear in Jharkhand.
Director of the state Met Department SD Kotal said more rains will lash many areas of the state on Sunday.
He said that over the last 24 hours monsoon has been very active in the state.
Light to medium range of rainfall has been reported across the state while heavy rainfall has been recorded in one or two places of Central Northern and Southern Jharkhand.
He said maximum rainfall of 198.4 mm has been recorded in Koderma while Ranchi witnessed the lowest temperature at 21.1 degree Celsius.
Waterlogging was reported from many areas of the state capital due to incessant rains.
According to reports, two gates of Chandil Dam were opened as the water level increased over 181.10 meter.
Officials of the Swarnarekha project said the nearby areas were facing a flood-like situation as the water level crossed 180 mark.
Five gates of Tenu Ghat dam located in Bokaro district were opened and 50,000 cusecs of water was released into the Damodar Rivet, after the water level in the dam increased drastically.
On Saturday, a bridge on Paharpur river collapsed in Giridih's Rajdhanwar Paharpur area, cutting off at least 10 villages from the main city. Railway tracks between Nath Ganj and Dilwah of Gomoh were blocked as rains dislodged stones from the nearby hills. Later, the debris was cleared and normal train traffic resumed on the section.

Meanwhile, a report from Dhanbad said floodwater entered the ground level of the PMCH Hospital, hampering day-to-day operations.
Asian Jalan Hospital located at Bartand has been also reported to be struggling with floodwater.
Low lying areas of Dhanbad district like Dhaiya, Jay Prakash Nagar Purana Bazar Sarai Dhela and Wasseypur have also reported water logging problem.
Severe water-logging has been reported from various areas of Bokaro.
