Azam Khan's son detained for obstructing Jauhar University raid

Lucknow, Aug 1 (IBNS): The police on Thursday detained SP leader Azam Khan's son, who is an MLA, for blocking officials from conducting a raid at Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur, media reports said.

The same triggered massive protest by party workers.

During the raid, about 2500 rare stolen books have been recovered from the University.

The books recovered are ancient as well.

Mohammad Azam Khan is the founder of the university.

Khan's son Abdullah Azam, who is also SP MLA from Suar Assembly seat, has been detained for obstructing the raid.

Abdullah has been later released on personal bond.

The investigation began after principal of Oriental College in Rampur, Zubair Khan, lodged a complaint alleging that 9000 books of his college were stolen and taken to Jauhar University's library.

After the news of detention of Abdullah spread, SP leaders led by their state president Naresh Uttam gathered at the party office and marched towards the Raj Bhavan to meet the Governor.

They also staged a dharna to protest the arrest outside the Governor's official residence without any prior intimation.
