Nadda Convoy Attack

Attack on JP Nadda's convoy: MHA again summons West Bengal Chief Secretary, DGP; State wants video conference

New Delhi/Kolkata/IBNS: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), for the second time, summoned West Bengal Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) over the attack on BJP president J.P. Nadda's convoy that took place in Diamond Harbour a week ago, reports said on Friday.

According to reports, Bengal CS Alapan Bandyopadhyay and DGP Virendra have been directed to appear before the MHA in New Delhi at 5:30 pm. on Friday (Dec 18).

Responding to the MHA letter, Bengal CS has requested the Centre to hold the meeting through video conferencing instead of attending physically, citing the pandemic situation.

However, no response has come yet from the MHA end, sources said.

Earlier on Thursday (Dec 10), BJP chief J.P. Nadda's convoy was attacked allegedly by the workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress at Sirakol area under Usthi Police Station limits in South 24 Parganas district when he was going to join a party meeting in Diamond Harbour.

Following the incident, the Centre had sought a report from the state and directed West Bengal CS and Director General of Police (DGP) to present themselves physically before the MHA in New Delhi on Monday (Dec 14), though both the officials skipped the summon.

Meanwhile, the MHA has already attached three IPS officials with the Bengal cadre, who were in charge of Nadda's security that day, and transferred them on Central deputation.
