Attack on Hindus: BJP leader Dilip Ghosh participates in protest against Bangladesh violence in Delhi

New Delhi/UNI: Bangladesh government should urgently take steps to control incidents of violence against the Hindu minorities, Bharatiya Janata Party Vice-President and former West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh said on Tuesday as he participated in a protest in Delhi against the incidents in the neighbouring country.

Ghosh also launched an attack at the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal and said her silence over the incidents of violence is questionable.

"Such incidents have happened earlier as well, Sheikh Hasina government had taken strong steps against it at that time and it was controlled. Similar steps need to be taken now. Hindus should be able to live in peace in Bangladesh," Ghosh told UNI on the sidelines of the protest.

Asked if the center needs to take more diplomatic steps, the West Bengal BJP leader replied in affirmative.

"Government would take diplomatic steps, discussions are on. But we cannot see any impact yet. Bangladesh government should take it seriously," he said.

He also said India should create more pressure on Bangladesh.

"Indians have also contributed to the freedom of Bangladesh, Hindus have contributed to their freedom... Bangladesh government should ensure they are safe," he said.

He said it appeared that the developments in Afghanistan have emboldened the terrorists in Bangladesh.

"It is also possible that the Afghanistan incident has emboldened the terrorists," he said.

Slamming the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's silence over the issue.

"Mamata Banerjee becomes silent when things happen in Pakistan and Bangladesh. They only do vote bank politics. Are Hindu Bengalis in Bangladesh not her responsibility, can't she even issue a statement?" he said.

Bangladesh has been rocked by a spate of attacks on Hindu houses, temples and Durga Puja pandals after rumours spread through social media of an alleged instance of disrespect to the holy Quran.

Hindus constitute about 8 per cent of Bangladesh population and they play a significant role in the social and economic development of that country, he said.
