Atiq Ahmed's youngest son Aban killed in highway crash while heading to meet jailed brother
Aban Ahmed, the youngest son of late gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, was killed in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi on Thursday after the SUV he was travelling in crashed into a highway divider.
Aban, the youngest of Atiq Ahmed's five sons, was travelling in a white Hyundai Creta with four friends when the accident occurred.
Another occupant, identified as Sonu, also died in the crash, while three others sustained injuries and were rushed to a medical college for treatment.
According to police, Aban was travelling to Jhansi to meet his elder brother Ali Ahmed, who is lodged in jail there.
Driver lost control, say police
Senior Superintendent of Police BBGTS Murthy said police received information about the accident at around 10.30 am.
"Two people died in the accident, while three others sustained injuries. The injured are undergoing treatment at the medical college," Murthy told reporters.
Police said the SUV hit a road divider after the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation.

Aban's death adds another chapter to the turbulent history of Atiq Ahmed's family.

Atiq Ahmed had five sons:
- Umar Ahmed, the eldest, is lodged in Lucknow jail.
- Ali Ahmed is currently in Jhansi jail.
- Asad Ahmed, the third son, was killed in a police encounter in Jhansi in April 2023.
- Ahzam Ahmed, the fourth son, is out of jail.
- Aban Ahmed, the youngest, died in Thursday's road accident.

Former MP Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were shot dead on April 15, 2023, while being escorted by police for a medical examination in Prayagraj.
Three assailants posing as journalists opened fire on the brothers in an attack that was broadcast live on television.
A convicted criminal-turned-politician, Atiq Ahmed faced numerous cases, including murder, extortion and kidnapping. In March 2023, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in a kidnapping case.
