Guwahati, Sep 23 (IBNS): At least 10 people were killed as heavy rain in the last 48 hours triggered flash floods and landslides in several districts of Assam and Meghalaya.

Seven people died in Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills district after torrential rain inundated over 100 villages affecting over one lakh people, reports said. Three people have been killed following heavy rains in Assam.

Over 300 schoolchildren staying in the Seventh Day Adventists School were rescued from floods by the Army and local police in North Garo Hills district.

Several people have been stranded on National Highway-51 following massive landslides that have cut off the Garo Hills from rest of the state.

Several villages in Goalpara, Dhubri, Lakhimpur and Kamrup districts were inundated due to incessant spell of rain, sources said.
