Assembly poll results: BJP-Congress in close fight to grab MP

New Delhi, Dec 11 (IBNS): The battle to wrest power in Madhya Pradesh is still on as the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are fighting neck-and-neck with the final result not yet endorsed, even as results in other key states threw up a clear Congress win in Chhattisgarh and a fractured but anti-BJP mandate in Rajasthan where the Rahul Gandhi led national party has a clear edge over the saffron.  

The results of the polls are not obviously good news for the ruling BJP in India with the opposition already holding confabulations to oust the Modi government in the 2019 elections getting a shot in the arm with the saffron brigade doing poorly. 
 
As per the latest trends of the poll results, both the parties are in a close fight in Madhya Pradesh, a key state where the BJP is ruling for the past 15 years. While the BJP tally is 111 at the moment, Congress is only two seats behind at 109. But the final outcome is yet to be endorsed by the Election Commission.
 
In a 230-member Madhya Pradesh assembly, the majority mark to win the elections is 116.
 
The results of assembly polls in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram are also coming out on Tuesday.
 
Riding on state chief Sachin Pilot and senior leader Ashok Gehlot, the Congress is on its way to uproot Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government in Rajasthan. 
 
The Congress is presently leading in 102 seats while the BJP is lagging behind with 71. Congress is hopeful of forming a government in Rajasthan as they have already started interacting with the non-BJP winners. 
 
Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot are both aspirants for the chief ministers' position and they both said Congress is going to form the next government for certain.
 
In Chhattisgarh, the Congress, which is leading in 67 seats, is set to remove the Raman Singh government. The incumbent BJP is just ahead in 15 seats.
 
Giving no chance to the Congress-led alliance, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS) is going to sweep the Telangana polls. So far, the TRS is leading in 85 seats while the Congress-led alliance in just 21. The BJP could not make any impact as it is leading in only three seats.
 
Telangana Chief Minister KCR's daughter and parliamentarian K Kavitha said: "The hard work had paid off. We are seeing the response of the people.  Nobody knows Telangana like KCR."
