Assamese will be mandatory subject in Assam till class 10
The Assam minister said that, in this regard a legislation will be passed in the state assembly in August next.
“Assamese will be mandatory in all schools till class 10. But if someone not interested to take up Assamese he or she can opt Bengali or Bodo subject. Bengali subject will be mandatory for Barak Valley schools and Bodo to all Bodo medium schools,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The Assam minister further said that, the state government will appoint nearly 16,000 elementary teachers by next year.
“At present 14,331 teachers post are vacant in that state and another 2000-3000 new vacancies will come up. We have 19709 TET passed candidates, who still wait for appointment. Out of these TET passed candidates, nearly 80 percent will be appointed by 2018,” the Assam education minister said.
The minister said that, an additional of Rs 600 crore will be required annually to fill up these posts.
Sarma further said that, the Centre has relaxed the norms of Diploma in Elementary Education (DlEd) and Bachelor in Education (BEd) for appointing teachers specially for Assam.
