Aizawl: Security forces have recovered a huge cache of illegal weapons in Mizoram’s Champhai district on Friday.

Based on intelligence input, Serchhip battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) launched operation in the jungle area of Zote in Champhai district and recovered the arms.

The security personnel had recovered three AK-56 series Rifles, three empty magazines and 2,30,000 Myanmar currency notes in the jungle area.

The operation was conducted by the team of Assam Rifles and Customs department of Champhai district.

Three AK-56 series Rifles with three empty magazines were wrapped in a red cloth and suspected militants kept hide the weapons in the area.

Ongoing smuggling is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram.
