Assam: Police arrests PHE engineer for allegedly taking bribes

Guwahati, Jan 6 (IBNS): Assam police on Friday arrested an Executive Engineer of the state Public Health Engineering (PHE) department from Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district, who was allegedly taking bribes from a number of contractors in the name of allotting works order.

According to the reports, based on a complaint from a person, Dibrugarh police have arrested the engineer from his office.

“Nazrul Islam, Executive Engineer was arrested from his office,” a police official said.

The Dibrugarh police also registered a case (No- 33/17 under section 387 of the IPC) against the engineer.

The complainant said that, the engineer charged commission of 40-60 percentage break-up from him and other contractors in different works.
