Assam: NDFB(S) militant apprehended from Chirang

Guwahati, Jan 25 (IBNS) : The Assam police on Sunday apprehended a hardcore cadre of NDFB(S) in Assam's Chirang district, officials said.

Assam police IGP of BTAD Dr LR Bisnoi said that acting on tip-off, the police had launched operation at Duttapur area under Sidli police station in the BTAD district and nabbed the militant identifies as Kesob Basumutary alias Nala Buha.

Security personnel recovered one 303 rifle, one 36HE grenade, one 7.65mm pistol magazine, 70 rounds 303 rifle ammunition from the remote area after it was revealed by the militant during interrogation.

"Police recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition which were kept buried in the remote area, " Dr LR Bisnoi said.

The police have seized two mobile handsets in possession from the militant.

The security forces apprehended five militants belonging to NDFB(S) in Kokrajhar district on Sunday.

The outfit group was involved in the massacre in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur district on Dec 23 left more than 80 tribal people dead.

On other hand, the Assam police has sounded high alert across the state after several militant groups including ULFA(I), NDFB(S), KLO had called boycott Republic Day.

"Tight security has been beefed up across the state, " Assam police DGP Khagen Sarma said.
