Guwahati/IBNS: Assam Finance minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma asked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to campaign in Bangladesh, not in West Bengal.

On Tuesday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee said in a public meeting held at Kaliaganj, that all the people who came from Bangladesh and have been casting votes in the elections were Indian citizens.

Reacting over the West Bengal Chief Minister’s remarks on Bangladeshis, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that, it clearly indicates that Mamata Banerjee is standing for Bangladeshi infiltrators.

“She is trying to redefine the citizenship clause ensign in the constitution of India. I think, next time she will not campaign in West Bengal, she will campaign in Bangladesh. She will say please come and elect me again and again,” Sarma said.

The Assam minister said that Mamata Banerjee has no genuine concern about the scares resource, the limited resource available with the West Bengal government should have been used for the poor and needy.

“Instead of that, she is openly inviting a particular section of Bangladeshi infiltrators to India,” Sarma added.

On the other hand, former Assam Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Tarun Gogoi said that, Mamata Banerjee only spoke about West Bengal and she knows about her own state.

“The voters are Indian citizens and the Election Commission has found them as Indian citizens and as a result of which their names are enumerated in the voter list. They are Indian citizens,” Tarun Gogoi said.

Gogoi further said that, if any illegal Bangladeshi got voter card then the Election Commission will be responsible for it.

“The Election Commission of India has issued voter card and enumerated their names in the voter list and voter can only be the Indian citizen. So, the Election Commission should take proper and adequate steps,” Tarun Gogoi said.

The former Assam Chief Minister said that in Assam there were made intensive revision of electoral rolls twice by linking with the 1966 voter list.
