Assam govt constituted One man Inquiry Commission for Golaghat incident
Guwahati, Aug 29 (IBNS) : The Assam State Government on Friday had constituted a One Man Inquiry Commission headed by Justice (Retd.) BP Katakey, retired Judge of Gauhati High Court to inquire into the Golaghat incident on Aug 20.
The state government had constituted the inquiry commission to inquire into the circumstances leading to the police firing that took place in Golaghat Town and its adjoining areas in Golaghat District on Aug 20, which resulted in death of three persons and injuries to several persons, including police personnel, besides significant loss of public and private properties.
The commission of Inquiry will ascertain the circumstances leading to and the act of Police firing.
It will also opine whether Police action was resorted to after exhausting all available non-lethal options of crowd control in the given circumstances.
The commission will further ascertain if any person or organization were responsible for the inciting or encouraging the mob violence leading to the violence.
Further, it will determine if there were any lapses on the part of any Authority, and, if so, will fix responsibility thereof.
The commission of Inquiry will suggest measures so that such situations or incidents are dealt with effectively in future with minimum loss of life or injury and will inquire on any other matter relevant to the subject matter of the inquiry.
The commission of Inquiry will submit its reports within 3 months from the date of issue of the Notification.
