Assam government officer arrested for allegedly trying to rape a minor girl in Guwahati
Guwahati, Aug 12 (IBNS): An officer of Assam Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) department was arrested for allegedly trying to rape a minor girl in Guwahati.
According to the reports, the accused Assam government official, who was identified as Safiur Alam, had allegedly tried to rape the 16-year-old minor girl when the victim was alone at home on Friday night at around 8-30 pm.
The victim girl’s family are living at the ground of Madhurjya Enclave located nearby Hatigaon police station and the accused person also lives with his family on the first floor of the building.
Following the incident, the victim’s family had lodged an FIR at Hatigaon police station and police had registered a case (no – 571/2018) under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
On Saturday night, Guwahati city police arrested the accused Assam government official and forwarded him to judicial custody.
Nandini Kakati, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Guwahati City police said the accused family and victim’s family are living in the same building located nearby Hatigaon police station and the incident happened while the victim minor girl was alone at her home.
“When we received the FIR lodged by the victim’s family we had detained the accused person. We had also registered a case in connection with the incident and arrested the accused person. Today, we had forwarded the accused person to judicial custody,” Nandini Kakati said.
On the other hand, mother of the victim minor girl alleged the accused person offered Rs 1 lakh to withdraw the case.
