Assam: 145 people hospitalised for suspected food poisoning in Karbi Anglong

Guwahati/IBNS: A 35-year-old youth died and 144 others hospitalised after a suspected food poisoning incident at an Assam Chief Minister’s programme at Diphu in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, his cabinet colleagues Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Pijyush Hazarika were also present in the inaugural programme of the first academic session of Diphu Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday where the organizers had served packaged foods to the people who attended in the programme.

After consuming the food packets, many people had received complaints of stomach ache, vomiting, fell ill and they were admitted at Diphu civil hospital.

One youth died at the government run hospital on Tuesday night.

According to the reports, 145 patients had reported their complaints and they were hospitalized.

Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 28 patients have been discharged from the hospital.

Meanwhile, the district administration has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
