Arvind Kejriwal takes oath as Delhi Chief Minister

New Delhi, Feb 14 (IBNS): Amid lusty cheering and presence of countless people at the Ramlila Maidan, Aam Admi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal too oath as Delhi's chief minister for the second time on Saturday. He is the eighth chief minister of Delhi.

The ceremony  was held at the Ramlila grounds, a sprawling public park in the national capital. Sitting arrangements were made for about 35,000-strong people to attend the oath-taking ceremony though the turnout far surpassed the arrangement.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung administered the oath of office to Kejriwal, who is reportedly running fever, and other ministers.

Among other ministers who took oath, included Manish Sisodia who will be the deputy chief minister of Delhi. Other ministers included Asim Ahmed Khan (MLA from Matia Mahal), who is the only minority minister in the cabinet at the moment. Sandip Kumar, an MLA from Sultanpur Majra, and Satyendra Jain, an MLA from Shakoor Basti, also took oath. He was health minister in the previous government.

Everyone was invited. Kejriwal recited poetry in radio ads to invite Delhi’s aam aadmi (common men and women) for the auspicious event.

AAP had also invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi, members of the Union Cabinet and opposition leaders like Ajay Maken and Kiran Bedi for the ceremony.

Around 3,000 security personnel have been deployed to monitor security arrangements at the venue. As many as 50 CCTV cameras and 12 LCD screens have also been added to the venue.

AAP, which earlier was in power in Delhi for 49 days with Congress support before Kejriwal resigned in Feb 2014, swept the polls in Delhi this time by winning a record number of 67 of the total 70 seats.
