Arrest Mamata Banerjee and Bengal will burn: TMC MP
Kolkata, Dec 31 (IBNS): Trinamool Congress lawmaker Idris Ali on Wednesday warned the Centre that if West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is "touched or arrested" in the Saradha chit fund scam, then the whole state will "burn."
"Mamata Banerjee has been falsely related in the Saradha scam. If the chief minister is touched or arrested, then the whole Bengal will burn. A lot of other people will also burn in the same fire. Mamata is the nation's firebrand Chief Minister. Even (Narendra) Modi won't be able to control the fire," Ali, who is a TMC MP from Basirhat, said at a meeting.
According to reports, he later defended his words.
"Whatever I said is right, I request the Prime Minister and and BJP leaders to not misuse CBI for political motives," Ali was quoted as saying by NDTV channel.
Earlier, suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh, who is now in police custody, had accused Mamata Banerjee of having benefitted the most from the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.
The Saradha Group that went bust last year left lakhs of depositors in a fix.
Saradha Group chief Sudipta Sen and Saradha Group director Debjani Mukherjee were arrested in April 2013 from Jammu and Kashmir.
Several other TMC leaders, parliamentarians, were earlier taken in custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra, a close aide of state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was arrested on Dec 12 by the probe agency.
