Army Chief visits Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, July 12 (IBNS): Chief of Army Staff General Bikram Singh and Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee on Saturday arrived in Srinagar for a farewell visit to the strategically important Chinar Corps.

The Chief commenced his visit by paying homage to the martyrs at the Chinar War Memorial.

During the visit, the Chief of Army Staff addressed the officers.

He complimented the Chinar Corps for ensuring a secure environment in the state.

He emphasized upon synergized people friendly operations, upholding the law of the land, respecting human rights and no collateral damage.

He highlighted several initiatives being undertaken for capability augmentation of the Armed forces and welfare measures.

Earlier, Army Chief Bikram Singh met Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here and discussed matters related to the prevailing security situation in the state.

The Army General briefed the Chief Minister about the functioning of security grid besides issues related to it.

Later in a day, he met state Governor N.N Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here.

The Governor and the Army Chief discussed various important matters related to extremely important role being played by the Northern Army in safeguarding the territorial integrity and the internal security of each of the three regions of the state.

The Army Chief is on a farewell visit to the Northern Command.
