Jammu/UNI: Army Chief General M M Naravane on Tuesday visited the forward areas along the Line of Control in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir and reviewed the security situation.

General Naravane arrived on a two-day visit to the Jammu region on Monday afternoon.

In the evening, he left for Rajouri along with officers from the Northern Command in Udhampur and the Jammu-based White Knight Corps.

"The Army Chief visited forward areas of White Knight Corps and undertook a first-hand assessment of the situation along the Line of Control," the Army said in a statement.

It said the COAS was briefed by commanders on the ground about the present situation and the counter-infiltration operations.

The visit of General Naravane comes in the backdrop of the ongoing gunfight between the Army personnel and terrorists in the Poonch region.

Nine Army personnel have been killed in the encounter, which has entered the ninth day.
