Amritsar trends on Twitter after netizens say they heard 'loud sounds'

Amritsar, Mar 15 (IBNS): Hastag #Amritsar started trending on Twitter on the wee hours of Friday after several netizen claimed that they heard 'two loud sounds' in the city.

Police, however, told media that people should not believe in rumours and nothing happened.

One of the theories that  started floating on the social media was that the sounds might be nothing but 'sonic boom'.

Twitter users discuss, speculate keeps buzzing:

One iKaveri tweeted: " Probably sonic booms. They are playing with their planes on the other side. #Amritsar."

Another Aanchal Mahajan said: "Can anyone please confirm what is happening in Amritsar? Is the bomb blast news true?? #Amritsar @narendramodi @IAF_MCC."

Netizen Ragini posted: "My entire house shook from the blasts. #Amritsar."

Another Sushant Joshi said: "Loud sounds heard in amritsar at 1:15 am. And some are saying that two fighter jets were flying above so it can be the sonic boom of the jets Authorities please clarify #amritsar @aajtak @ptcnews @cpamritsar."

What is a sonic boom:

A sonic boom is the sound associated with the shock waves created whenever an object travelling through the air travels faster than the speed of sound. Sonic booms generate enormous amounts of sound energy, sounding similar to an explosion or a thunderclap to the human ear.
