Amid Ukraine conflict, PM Modi stresses on making India self-reliant in defence sector
New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting to review India’s security preparedness, and the prevailing global scenario in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed that India's self-reliance in the defence sector should be prioritised, so that it not only strengthens country's security but also boosts economic growth, media reports said.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar were among those attending the meeting.
NSA Ajit Doval, the three chiefs of Army, Navy and the Air Force and senior government officials were also present at the meeting.
The Prime Minister was briefed on latest developments and different aspects of India’s security preparedness in the border areas as well as in the maritime and air domain.
The Prime Minister was also briefed on the latest developments in Ukraine, including the details of Operation Ganga to evacuate Indian nationals, along with some citizens of India’s neighbouring countries, from Ukraine.
Prime Minister Modi directed that all possible efforts should be made to bring back the mortal remains of Naveen Shekharappa, who died in Kharkiv.
Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine on Februray 24, PM Modi has held several high-level meetings with union ministers and senior officials.
