Air India restores check-in systems after brief nationwide outage

Air India announced late Tuesday that its check-in systems across all airports are “functioning normally” after a technical outage disrupted operations and led to flight delays earlier in the evening.

NDTV, quoting sources, said, "The disruption lasted for at least 45 minutes before being resolved."

“The third-party system has been fully restored, and check-in at all airports is functioning normally. All our flights are operating as per schedule. We thank our passengers for their understanding,” the airline said in an updated post on X.

Earlier, Air India confirmed that a third-party system failure had affected check-in operations at several airports, causing delays not only for its own flights but also for multiple other airlines.

“While the system is progressively getting restored, some of our flights may continue to experience delays until the situation fully normalises,” the airline had said, advising passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

IndiGo also reported delays, though these were attributed to operational reasons, media reports said.

The slowdown reportedly originated from an issue with the Amadeus software — a widely used global aviation system that manages airline bookings, reservations, inventory, and departure control services.

Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu informed the Rajya Sabha on Monday that several aircraft approaching Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport recently reported incidents of GPS spoofing.

However, he said flight operations were unaffected, as alternative runways using conventional navigation systems remained functional.

According to earlier reports, nearly 800 flights were delayed at the Delhi airport on November 6.

GPS or GNSS spoofing involves attempts to mislead navigation systems by transmitting false location signals.
