Mumbai, Feb 3 (IBNS): Amid controversy over a comic show featuring Bollywood director Karan Johar and actors Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh for alleged obscene language and content, the filmmaker on Tuesday slammed the critics of the show even as the Maharashtra government has said it might take action.

"If the AIB roast was vulgar and not in accordance with the law, then we will act," Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Johar, who had anchored the AIB roast, attacked his critics and tweeted: "Not your cup of tea...don't drink it!!!"

Political leaders have continued to slam the roast and  Nationalist Congress Party MLA Jitendra Awhad has asked the state government to stop the show.

"Stop #AIB show or else we will stop it taking law in our hand.Decency auctioned," tweeted  Nationalist Congress Party MLA Jitendra Awhad.

Maharashtra minister for cultural affairs Vinod Tawde on Tuesday said that the Maharashtra government would not exercise “moral policing” to determine if a roast of actors Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor employed any obscene language and content during the event.

“On #AIBRoast, will only enquire if the AIB had taken appropriate certificate. No moral policing if they r allowed by law, I can't stop them,” Tawde tweeted.

Earlier, he had said that “such vulgarity is a crime and based on facts which will emerge, the government will file a case against them”.

Censor Board member Ashoke Pandit criticised Johar said: "Karan Johar could have easily shown his position while performing @#% to his mom at home instead of making it public.#AIB Porn Show."

His tweet triggered a fresh controversy with netizens slamming him over his remark.

Salman Anees Soz, a spokesman for the opposition Congress demanded Pandit's removal from the Censor Board.

"Last RT. Filmmaker & censor board member @ashokepandit tweets filth about @karanjohar. Is this acceptable? He should quit or be removed," he tweeted.

Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha posted on her Twitter page: "So nice to see twitter is filled with such angels who point out hypocrisy n never use foul language n have nvr laughed at dirty jokes (haw)."

The roast featured a panel of eight and ‘Roastmaster’ Karan Johar where Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor shared jokes about their on-screen and off-screen lives. The event was  filmed in a Mumbai stadium with an audience of 4,000.
