Ahead of I-Day, J&K under tight security
Srinagar, Aug 14 (IBNS) As the country gears up to celebrate the Independence Day on Friday, security arrangements have hiked across Jammu and Kashmir.
Security has been strengthened particularly around Bakshi Stadium in the Kashmir Valley where the main function of the Independence Day will be held.
Police sources said three-tier security arrangements have been made around the main venue, where Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will unfurl the tricolour.
Police official told IBNS that necessary security arrangements have been put in place around the Bakshi Stadium.
"There is a three -tier security ring placed. Closed circuit television cameras (CCTVs) have been installed and anti-sabotage mechanism is in place to ensure peaceful function," he said, adding that general public can enter through gate number 7 and 8 of the Bakshi stadium.
He, however, said invitees would have to prove their identity at the function.
"They should bring invitation card and their identity proof to ensure their entry through Tulsi Bagh side," he said.
Sources further said that all the buildings around the Bakshi Stadium have been occupied by sharp shooters of the police and the CRPF to prevent any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in other parts of the Valley and the venues of I-day functions at the district headquarters have also been handed over to the police and other security agencies.
In Srinagar city, paramilitary CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir police personnel are conducting frisking of civilians and searching of the vehicles for the past more than one week.
Besides, vehicles entering from the other districts of the Valley are also being searched at the entry points of the city.
Police sources said that in wake of the hijack of a private vehicle on Srinagar-Jammu highway, alert has been sounded across Kashmir while according to police all efforts are on to trace the missing vehicle.
Pertinently, a taxi was hired by two people for Srinagar from Pathankot city in Punjab Tuesday.
A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) patrol party according to police found the driver of the car tied to a tree at a secluded place in Ramban district.
In another incident, militants striked last evening in Pampore of south Kashmir killing two police personnel and one civilian in a retaliate of firing.
Both factions of Hurriyat Conference and United Jihad Council have called for a shutdown on August 15.
