Agra conversion issue rocks Parliament again

New Delhi, Dec 16 (IBNS): The Agra conversion issue rocked the Parliament once again with unruly scenes especially in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
Opposition MPs entered the well of the Upper House, shouting slogans against the government.

They were demanding a statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue.

Congress MP Rajiv Shukla told the House that: "We want the Prime Minister to make a statement on the issue. We maintain our stand. We want a discussion on the issue."

Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien said, "We want the PM to come and participate in the debate on conversion row. The onus is now on the government to run the House."

Deputy Chairperson PJ Kurien also reprimanded MPs saying this was the "height of indiscpline by MPs."

In Lok Sabha too, slogans were raised by Opposition MPs.

The government meanwhile, said that they will deliberate upon the issue on Wednesday.

Earlier, a police complaint was lodged after some 200 people were converted to Hinduism in a ceremony organized in Uttar Pradesh by groups like Bajrang Dal linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), media reports said.

Sources said some 57 Muslim families participated in the mass conversion ceremony in Agra.

Sources said the conversion event was termed as “homecoming” by the Bajrang Dal and Dharam Jagran Samanvay Vibhagh who jointly conducted the rituals.
