After split, BJP-Shiv Sena starts blame game
On one side while the Sena has dubbed the BJP as “enemy”, the BJP on the other hand cited Shiv Sena’s “inflexibility” as the main reason behind the “divorce”.
Within 24 hours of the split, BJP and Shiv Sena have pointed their fingers at one another for the separation, media reported.
According to reports, BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy on Friday has reportedly accused its long-time coalition partner Shiv Sena by saying that Sena's "inflexibility" had forced the split.
He said, “Shiv Sena did not want to scale down their seats from 151.”
“It is a conscious but reluctant decision taken by state BJP. We could not have abandoned our smaller allies,” he added.
At the same time he remarked that it is very sad that the long-time alliance has broken.
Rudy said, “Have tried our best to save the coalition, heart-rending to part ways with Shiv Sena.”
Earlier, Shiv Sena lashed out at BJP for the end of “Mahjayuti” alliance of 25 years.
In the party mouthpiece Saamna, Shiv Sena termed its long-time coalition partner as “enemy”.
“Our other (mahayuti) alliance parties wanted the Sena-BJP combine to continue. More than that, it was what the 11 crore people of Maharashtra wanted. Those who trampled these sentiments are enemies of Maharashtra,” it wrote.
Sena also said that “This is an insult to the 105 Marathi martyrs of the Samyukta Maharashtra movement.”
The grand alliance which blossomed in 1989 during the time of former Prime Minister and veteran BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee and deceased Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray ended on Thursday.
Meanwhile, in the wake of split between ruling Congress-NCP coalition, BJP on Friday advocated the imposition of President’s rule in the state.
According to media reports, BJP representatives on Friday met Maharashtra Governor CV Rao and requested him to impose President Rule in the state after the ruling coalition government of Congress-Nationalist Congress Party split.
It has been learnt The Nationalist Congress Party with 62 MLAs in the 288 seat Assembly withdrew support from the Congress-led government when talks over seat sharing for upcoming elections failed.
Maharashtra is going to polls on October 15.
