After Milind Deora, now Jyotiraditya Scindia resigns as Congress general secretary

New Delhi, July 7 (IBNS): In a major development in the political paradigm of the Congress party, Jyotiraditya Scindia on Sunday stepped down as the general secretary of the party.

He cited the poor performance of the party in the Lok Sabha polls as the reason behind taking the decision.

Scindia, considered as a major youth leader of the party, announced his resignation after Mumbai unit chief Milind Deora stepped down from his position earlier in the day.

Scindia said he sent his resignation to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

He tweeted: "Accepting the people’s verdict and taking accountability, I had submitted my resignation as General Secretary of AICC to Shri @RahulGandhi. I thank him for entrusting me with this responsibility and for giving me the opportunity to serve our party."

Rahul Gandhi quit as party president last week.

The Congress received a massive jolt in the Lok Sabha polls recently.

The Bharatiya Janata Party won the polls for the second straight term.

Narendra Modi took oath as the PM of the country for the second consecutive term.
