After Mayawati, now Congress leader Navjot Sidhu urges Muslim voters not to split their votes

Katihar, Apr 16 (IBNS): Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has triggered controversy by urging Muslim voters living in a Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar to vote together to defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing a rally in Bihar’s Katihar Lok Sabha constituency, the cricketer-turned-politician urged Muslim voters not to split their votes.

"There is politics of division on the basis of caste being performed here. They are trying to divide the votes by getting Owaisi to field his party candidates here. If Muslims are united and vote together then Modi will be defeated," Sidhu was quoted as saying by the media.

The Bharatiya Janata Party asked why people belonging to a particular community was 'instigated'.

Mayawati, Yogi and her controversial comments:

In a season when the country is voting in the Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission of India on Monday took action against  Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BSP chief Mayawati for hate speeches.

The Commission barred Yogi from campaigning for 72 hours and Mayawati for 48 hours.

The Election Commission were served showcause notices to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati, for violating the Election Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during their speeches.

The notices were served to both the leaders on Thursday night and they have been given 24 hours to submit their replies.

Adityanath made remarks on "Ali" and "Bajrang Bali," while addressing a rally in Meerut.

Mayawati too was given the notice over appealing to the Muslims community to back the grand alliance candidate in Deoband, during a joint rally on Apr 7.
