Activist Disha Ravi sent to jail for three days in 'toolkit' case
New Delhi/IBNS: Climate activist Disha Ravi, who was arrested in connection with the farmers' protest toolkit case linked to the Republic Day violence, has been sent to jail for three days after she was produced in a court by the Delhi Police on Friday.
The 22-year-old activist was arrested from Bengaluru by the Delhi Police on Feb 13 and she faces charges of conspiracy and sedition.
The police have accused her of allegedly edited and sharing the toolkit backing the farmers' protest, which was tweeted by Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.
The court will hear Ravi's bail plea on Saturday.
The Google document, which was tweeted by Thunberg earlier this month to back farmers' protest and then deleted, was created by Ravi along with two other activists Nikita Jacob and Shantanu Muluk, police had said earlier this week.
The investigation in this matter intensified after the protesting farmers' tractor rally turned violent in the national capital on Republic day leaving one dead and over 100 police personnel injured.
Stressing there might be "tampering of evidence," the Delhi cops sought three more days of judicial custody for Ravi.
"We have issued notices to several others to join the probe. In this case, we have issued notice to Shantanu and we want to confront Disha and Shantanu," Delhi Police reportedly told Patiala House court where Ravi was produced.
She was in police custody for five days.
"During the course of interrogation, Disha Ravi has shifted the blame on Nikita and Shantanu," the police claimed.
While Ravi denied preparing the toolkit in court last Sunday, the police said that evidence against Disha Ravi was found from her cellphone data.
"I did not make the Toolkit. We wanted to support the farmers. I edited two lines on February 3," Ravi had told the court.
However, the police said Disha Ravi, Nikita Jacob and Shantanu Muluk had created Toolkit and shared it with others for editing.
"Based on information from Disha's phone and the fact that Nikita absconded, we arrested Disha," an officer had defended the arrest amid criticisms over the same.
The Delhi Police had said the toolkit was found on a social media handle ahead of the violence and indicates a conspiracy behind the chaos on Jan 26.
