AAP to hold 1,000 meetings to understand public opinion on free rides for women

| @indiablooms | Jun 07, 2019, at 08:52 pm

New Delhi, Jun 7 (UNI): Delhi's deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Friday said the AAP government has directed to hold around 1,000 small meetings across the national capital to survey public opinion on the free travel scheme for women in Delhi metro and DTC buses.

Addressing mediapersons, Mr Sisodia said: "Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has convened a meeting of all the AAP MLAs, councillors, women's organisations and has instructed everyone to hold meetings in the entire city and keep this matter among the public."

"I went among the people and talked to them, most of the public is saying that the Metro-DTC buses should be free but the BJP is saying that this is a worthless scheme, should not be implemented," he said.

"So we will do around 1,000 small meetings across the national capital. All MLAs, councillors, head of the women organisations will hold at least 10 meetings each and give the outcome of this within a week's time that what general public is thinking about the scheme," the Deputy CM said. "This is a very important scheme and we believe this will not only lead to women safety but it will also be a big step towards women empowerment."

"Those women who don't go to far-off places for job due to high price in fare, they can also now travel. We want to ask the BJP two things - that those who want that women should get free travel, why they are thinking so, and those who are supporting BJP on this scheme, what is their logic," Mr Sisodia said.
