AAP Councillor Rakesh Kumar joins Congress

New Delhi/UNI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Ajmeri Gate Councillor Rakesh Kumar, along with his supporters, joined the Congress, here at Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) office on Monday.

The sitting Councillor joined the Congress in the presence of DPCC chief Subash Chopra, Congress spokesperson Mukesh Sharma, the party candidate for the Matia Mahal Assembly seat Javed Mirza, district president Mohammed Usman, former Municipal Councillor Ashok Jain and other leaders.

Addressing the media, Chopra said, ''With each passing day, lot of Opposition leaders are joining Congress, especially, from AAP. We open for those who believe in our ideology of secularism."

He also criticised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for not visiting JNU, where masked goons went on a rampage, injuring the students and teachers.

“Kejriwal has not spoken up on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the attacks on the students of Jamia and JNU and his stony silence is proof that AAP is in league with the BJP on these issues,” Chopra alleged.

The former Delhi Assembly speaker said that the people of Delhi will never again believe Kejriwal’s promises as all his past “promises have proved to be hollow and blatant lies”.

Chopra repeated his earlier announcement that if Congress came to power, then it would give a relief package of up to 600 units of power, which would be included in the party manifesto.

He also reiterated his earlier stand that the Congress will not only retain the 20,000 litres free water scheme, but will go several steps ahead by giving cash-back incentive of 30 paise per litre of water saved from the free water scheme to conserve water for the future.
